We provide support for projects in the fields of journalism, art und social affairs. In addition, we award scholarships to young journalists once a year. You can submit a grant application to us at any time. For art and journalistic scholarships there are fixed submission deadlines; in these cases, your application will be considered for the upcoming submission period. If you need advice on submitting your application, please contact us.

We prefer that your application be submitted digitally as a PDF document. You can also send it by mail to our foundation’s offices. Once we have received your application, you will receive confirmation of its receipt by e-mail. We ask for your understanding that submitted material cannot be returned.

Project funding

Please review the eligibility criteria for each grant type before submitting your application. Our FAQ will help you with any questions you may have. Your application for project funding – regardless of the type of grant – should contain the following information:

1. Application form:

  • Factual short description
  • Answers to the following questions: Who? What? When? Where? And how?
  • One sentence about the unique selling point of your project

2. Detailed project description:

  • Subject matter
  • Project goals
  • Market and needs assessment, as appropriate
  • Target group/participants
  • 1-2 meaningful reference projects of own work (with links to the projects, if applicable)
  • Timeline, including planned presentation dates and locations, if applicable
  • Planned measures for analysis and evaluation

3. List of contributors

  • Contact information
  • Legal status of the applicant or the applicant’s organisation
  • Information regarding non-profit status (not a requirement for application)
  • Short biography of the project participants

4. Detailed cost and financing plan

  • Calculation of expected income and expenses
  • List of grant applications submitted to other organisations, including amount and status of funding
  • Total amount of grant applied for from the Rudolf Augstein Foundation Please note that art grants are limited to 10,000 euros.

Journalistic scholarships

Please submit the following documents to apply for a journalistic scholarship:

  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form, including contact details
  • Motivation letter
  • At least two meaningful samples of journalistic writing
  • At least one reference letter from a person working in journalism who is able to assess your work
  • A statement of your expected income and expenses during your training

Grant report and evaluation

Please submit a complete grant report no more than three months after you have completed your project supported by the Rudolf Augstein Foundation. This should contain the following:

1. A statement of account

  • Comparison of estimated and actual expenditures and revenues

2. Documents demonstrating appropriation of funding

  • For non-profit organisations: Tax receipt for the grant amount
  • For individuals or other organisations: Copies of receipts totalling the grant amount

3. A substantive fact report

  • Generally, you may present the report in a format of your choosing. However, please read our orientation guide.

4. A press review

5. Graphical material

  • At least three meaningful photographs of your project at a printable resolution (300 dpi)
  • If available, links to video or audio material
